WATER TO AIR HEAT EXCHANGE COILS
Water to air heat exchange coils are specially designed for exchanging heat from hot water
to moving air, for adapting a hot water or boiler system into a forced air heating system.
They work exceptionally well for outdoor wood or coal (as well as peat, other biomass
fuel and petroleum based fuels) fired hydronic (water) furnaces, hot water boilers, solar
hydronic heating systems and geothermal hydronic heating systems. They can also work
in applications for water chilling, if condensation issues are addressed. These heat exchange coils
are designed to efficiently maximize heat transfer without restricting air flow, by utilizing a series
of 3/8 copper tubs with a series of high density louvered aluminum fins. Spaced at 12 fins per inch
(FPI) these heat exchange coils maximize heat transfer with a minimum amount of air restriction
making these superior for heat transfer for hydronic to forced air heating. All 3/8 copper tubes are
connected to 1 inch copper manifolds and 1-inch copper inlet and outlet ports. All heat exchange
coils come standard with 1 inch ID (inside diameter) inlet and outlet copper ports or 1 1/8 inch
OD (outside diameter) copper ports. These ports can be connected with standard 1 inch ID
copper or brass sweat solder pipe fittings, or any compression fitting rated for 180° F
hot water, including push-to-fit compression fittings, Sharkbite® fittings, Quest® and
any compression fittings that work on standard 1 inch copper pipe, pex pipe, hot water
polybutylene tubing and CPVC pipe. We have complete fittings kits that work for
various applications.
3-ROW vs 4-ROW WATER TO AIR
HEAT EXCHANGE COILS
3-row water to air heat exchange coils have 3 rows of 3/8” copper tubing running through them.
They are connected together by a 1 inch manifold with 1 inch inlets and outlets.
4-row water to air heat exchange coils have 4 rows of 3/8” copper tubing running through them.
They are connected together by a 1 inch manifold with 1 inch inlets and outlets.
Both 3-row and 4-row heat exchange coils are 3 1/2” thick. 4-row heat exchange coils have
higher BTU ratings than the same size 3-row coil, therefore taking up the same physical space
but with a higher BTU rating, allowing for more heat transfer. 4-row heat exchange coils will
not restrict air flow any more than their 3-row counterparts.
